Monday read: Beauty Spots and Bumping into Ex's.

I’m sorry this one is late. Last night was my final show of 2024 and I’d convinced myself I’d be able to post from my green room before going on stage but clearly that was never going to happen. One show + three celebratory Spicy Margaritas later and here we are: this is now a Monday read not a Sunday read. I hope you are enjoying this at your desk whilst chomping down on a cheese and pickle sandwich or jambon beurre baguette. I’m embarrassed to say that my ex makes another appearance this week (I will ration mentions of him hence forth because it is getting out of hand). To be fair to me- he popped into my life unannounced (well Hinge but it still counts). I’m also sharing a recommendation for a great view of Paris that isn’t that one in Montmartre (yes there are others).

Bumping into your ex on Hinge.

I bumped into my ex on Hinge. That’s not how you say it but that’s how it felt. You bump into ex’s IRL, in Pret or Tesco or on the Northern line coming back from getting a smear test wearing tracksuit bottoms and no make up. You don’t “bump” into him in the palm of your hand. I stumbled across my ex-boyfriend on a mobile phone application designed for single people to find each other without needing to leave their home. Monday afternoon, at my kitchen table. I’d opened the app to avoid writing an email and there he was. No worse than that, he was in my “STANDOUTS” or as Hinge describes it: “a bonus batch of people most your type”. Even the algorithm thinks we belong together.

This is one for the “I’m not like other tourists” tourists. Maybe you’re from East London and you want to keep that Hackney cool in the city of love. Sure you’d like to get a “fit” view of the city but you don’t want to rub shoulders with Americans taking selfies with a stick whilst a man in a beret murders an accordion. If so this recommendation is for you.
